Why do people say, "Huh?", even though they know what you said? Are they simply walking around with their brains unhooked? If so, how do they keep from drooling?

For example, I was talking to my roomate's girlfriend/groupie/friend/whateverthefuck at a gathering Sunday , and I asked her if she was having a good time.

Me:"So are you having a good time?"

She:"Huh?"

Me:"Are-"

She:"Oh! Yeah! Yeah! Uh-huh. Having a great time."

What the fuck?

Ask any random kid in the street. 9/10 of the time you will garner the same reaction.
