The movie, 'Independence Day' has to be the one of the most
manipulative, jingoistic, schmaltzy pieces of crap ever written. In regards to the Jordanian assassin al-Zaqarwi, he was a mutant,
obsessed with death and murder, deserving nothing but death himself,
twisted in every way. The sadness lays not in the victims he left in his wake. The sadness
lays in the fact that any of this had to happen at all. I wish I lived in a society that would be stoic about his death, not
celebratory. I wish to be a part of a society that abhors all murder,
and a society that thinks the fact that a freak like that existed and
had to be taken down is something that diminishes us all, not just the
dead. A society where violence, pollution and murder were relics of
history. The violence is our strongest link to the primordial past,
the peace is our future which we deny with every breath. We strive to
murder and betray each other because we believe there is not enough
for everyone, and so fight for the crumbs from the master's plate. There is enough for everyone, and the ruling elite's greatest trick is
convincing everyone that there never has been enough for everyone and
there never will be.
